BRAC began with humanitarian response in 1972, supporting communities devastated by the cyclone and the Liberation War.
That legacy continues today through the Disaster Risk Management Programme, which works to build resilience and deliver rapid, locally led support at scale when disaster strikes.
Bangladesh is one of the world’s most disaster-affected countries. In 2024 alone, BRAC responded to five major disasters, including large-scale flooding, cyclones and extreme heat waves.
