Seven years later, hear the stories of the refugees still sheltering in Bangladesh
On the seventh anniversary of the Rohingya refugee crisis, hear from the people who still call Cox’s Bazar home.
When flowers bloom or vegetables grow in those gardens, I feel proud. I feel like my work has brought happiness to my community. This job has taught me how to manage household waste properly, and now I share this knowledge with neighbors to help keep the community clean and support compost production. This job has also provided much-needed financial stability. Since my husband was killed by the Myanmar military in 2012, I have faced many financial hardships. My role as a solid waste segregator allows me to buy my children their favorite foods and new clothes. It has brought me dignity as a woman and mother and brought positive change to my community. –Fatema -

Schools just closed for 300,000 Rohingya refugee children
As nearly 6,500 learning facilities shutter in Cox’s Bazar, BRAC will continue to stand with Rohingya refugee children and families. Your support can make a difference.
Our hope is that the school closures will be temporary, and more funding will be made available. Plus, BRAC’s Humanitarian Play Labs—safe, joyful spaces for younger children to explore and learn—are temporarily closed but set to reopen next month. BRAC and European Union sign agreement to strengthen integrated humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar
The partnership will expand critical programs for Rohingya refugees sheltering in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, as well as members of the host community.
With an investment of 4.45 million euros, the project will support individuals from both Rohingya and host communities in Cox’s Bazar over a 24-month period. Its best practices and lessons learned aim to contribute to a replicable model for other protracted humanitarian crises. -
